Rue des Bourdonnais owes its name to Adam and Guillaume Bourdon, provost of the merchants of Paris and bourgeois of Paris who exercised municipal functions in the 12th century. Impasse des Bourdonnais, on the site of the first medieval city wall in Paris, gives onto Rue des Bourdonnais.
