It is a house that Nicolas Flamel, a wealthy Parisian bourgeois, had built after the death of his wife Pernelle, in 1397, in order to house a business on the ground floor and to accommodate the poor on the upper floors. He never lived there. It is the oldest house in Paris known to date.
