The road bears the name of "Rohan", which is an alteration of Rouen, because of its neighborhood with the hotel of the archbishops of Rouen, overlooking the rue du Jardinet. This court, created before the 15th century, beared the name of “Impasse de la cour de Rouen”. Henri II built several buildings there for his mistress Diane de Poitiers.
